Premiere of the performance ‘Grains’ at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine

On 6 November, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine hosted the premiere of the performance ‘Grains’ — an event that combined art, philosophy and inclusion. This art project was implemented as part of the ‘Philharmonic of the Unconquered’ initiative.

The performance was special because it was adapted for people with visual and hearing impairments.

The Barrier-Free Ukraine Resource Centre joined in the implementation of this project by creating Braille programes for blind visitors. On one side of the spread, the programme of the event and a poem are printed in enlarged Cyrillic, and on the other side, the information is duplicated in Braille.

Sign language interpretation (interpretation in Ukrainian sign language) was provided for viewers with hearing impairments, allowing people with hearing impairments to fully appreciate the poetic content and emotional narrative of the performance.

‘Zerna’ is a reinterpretation of the lives of Ukrainians during wartime. Music, poetry and visual symbols on the screen intertwine into a single emotional space where art speaks the language of sensations.

The inclusiveness of this project shows that culture should be open to everyone. When everyone can feel and understand art, it takes on real meaning.
