In particular, the station developed and installed:

1) a system of tactile strips to facilitate independent and safe movement of blind and visually impaired people (information, warning and guiding tactile strips);

2) a system of universal mnemonic schemes that facilitate orientation at the station for all categories of passengers, including blind people;

3) the visual navigation system was updated - new, more visually accessible signs for all passengers indicating the direction of subway trains, a list of stations, directions to the station exit, etc;

4) in accordance with the standards, the door leaf and door handles at the entrance/exit of the station were contrasted, and the visual navigation system of the entrance group was updated.

Kyiv Metro is one of the few organisations in Ukraine that implements a systematic approach and solves a number of problematic issues to create safe and unimpeded access to its facilities and services for all categories of passengers, including passengers with disabilities and other low-mobility groups.

This systematic work has been successful, in particular, due to the long-term cooperation of Kyiv Metro with experts and specialists of the All-Ukrainian Public Association "National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine" (AUO NAIP).

At Shuliavska station, as well as at Svyatoshyn, Syrets and Lukianivska stations of Kyiv Metro, experienced specialists of the NGO "Resource Centre "Barrier-Free Ukraine" worked during the planning and implementation of the relevant works.

Our specialists provided consulting support, developed and implemented a conceptual tactile floor navigation system for the Shuliavska station, which was first implemented in Kyiv at the Sviatoshyn metro station.

Thus, RCBU is a co-author of the accessibility concept for Shuliavska station: a developer and supplier of universal mnemonic schemes, signs, and a universal map of Kyiv Metro stations.

The second stage of works on accessibility for low-mobility passengers is ahead at Shuliavska metro station: a ramp at the entrance/exit of the station, a system of tactile accessibility elements (tactile strips) for the blind and visually impaired.

"The Resource Centre "Barrier-Free Ukraine" is a company of specialists working in the field of organising socially significant facilities with various means and equipment designed for the safety and comfort of movement of people with limited mobility.
