A renovated children's railway was opened in Kiev on Children's Day. It is the world's first mini replica of a railway station. In turn, the Resource Centre 'Barrier-Free Ukraine' installed tactile mimic diagrams and information signs in Braille for people with visual impairments on the territory of the Kiev Children's Railway. We work hard to ensure that spaces in our cities are accessible to all people.
In September 2017, the Kyiv City Children's Diagnostic Centre (KCCDC) asked the All-Ukrainian Public Association "National Assembly of the Disabled of Ukraine" to audit the accessibility of the premises and the surrounding area for people with disabilities and other low mobility population groups.
Mnemonic schemes are nothing new in Ukraine. On the contrary, their number on different types of objects is growing exponentially. But the problem is that the relevant products (as well as many others in the field of accessibility) in 90% of cases are ordered, manufactured and installed on a formal basis. In other words "just to have them" ... To show them during various inspections, to the media or to abstract human rights activists who, without understanding the nuances, record the presence or absence of these or those accessibility elements without reference to the needs of a particular user.
For Syrets station, a universal station map of the Kyiv underground line was developed and installed, which has no equivalents in Ukraine among currently available similar solutions of the appropriate quality ...
The first phase of the Sviatoshinsko-Brovarskaya station of the Kiev Metro has recently been completed for people with reduced mobility, including people with disabilities.
In early October 2020, specialists from the Resource Centre "Barrier-Free Ukraine" conducted an initial and repeated inspection of the Citizens' Reception Office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (9 Bastionna Street, Kiev) to determine the status of architectural accessibility for MSM, including persons with disabilities.
The Resource Centre 'Barrier-Free Ukraine' of the NGO National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine developed and installed the most modern universal mimic boards at special general education boarding school No. 5 named after Y.P. Batyuk. The most modern universal mnemonic signs, designed specifically for this educational institution, were installed at the Y.P. Batyuk special boarding school No. 5 in Kiev.
On 19 and 20 May 2021 POG Resource Centre "Barrier-free Ukraine" OSO National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine conducted a two-day training workshop "Accessibility of objects of the environment, buildings, transport, infrastructure for people with disabilities. Methodology for conducting a survey to determine the state of accessibility of relevant facilities" (2 days, 15 hours).
Over the last 50-70 years, various design concepts and trends have been actively developed to take into account the whole spectrum of human diversity and to adapt spaces, environments, devices, equipment and objects to a wide variety of human needs, functions and activities. Two approaches can be distinguished here - universal design and inclusive design.
